BPH



A 62-year-old Malay man come with chief complaint of decrease frequency of urination, feeling of urgency and voiding difficulty.

1) Describe 3 gross changes seen in this picture.

2) Is it benign or malignant disease?

3) What is the most probable diagnosis?

4) Name 1 zone of that structure that is commonly affected.

5) What is effective medical therapy for the disease?

Answers :

1) Nodules are fairly readily identified, yellow-pink with soft consistency, not capsulated, compress the adjacent prostatic tissue

2) Benign (kalau malignant color white-yellow/gray-white, takde pink, plz refer notes)


3) Benign prostatic hyperplasia


4) Transitional zone (kalau prostatic Ca - peripheral zone)


5) Alpha-1 adrenergic blocker (eg terazosin, doxazosin, tamsulosin) - to reduce tone of smooth muscle

5alpha-reductase inhibitors (eg finasteride) - to shrink the prostate
